Thoughts:
I love YA Thriller/Horror books because they are so delightfully creepy, and this book did not disappoint in that regard. Listening to this one was fun because it felt like a fully immersive experience. The excerpts were done with different voice actors which only added to the unique unsettling experience. It was just a blast and I highly recommend the audio experience for this one! Since this book is atmospherically driven, the audio really was the way to go for me.

Kate Alice Marshall has been a sleeper of an author for me who is quickly becoming a shining star and moving up my favorites author list. I love her newer works so recently decided to go back and listen to some of her previous works, this being one of them. Its fun being how shes evolved, while also seeing how she’s stayed the same, it’s great. The writing is just wonderful, its so creepy and haunting, and you will feel like you are next to the characters on their journey. The multiple format present in this book worked so well. It added additional layers that added credibility to the story that just commented how good it was.

The characters in this book were interesting. I loved the complex friendship dynamics that were present. There was also some great diverse representation as well. Sara was bisexual, her best friend is a lesbian, one of the characters has a hearing aid and everyone chats using ASL, there were also many characters from different cultural backgrounds. It did feel a little much and that she was trying to tick a lot of boxes with the characters, but there were so many that it did end up working.

This is a fantastic book and I highly recommend you check out the audio version!
